The method
MeloLingua is built on one idea: you learn a language by understanding real stories, then speaking them back — not by memorising word lists in isolation. Every session moves through the same connected loop, so the language you meet in a story is the language you practise, review, and eventually reuse on your own.
Open a story at your level and follow a complete scene with natural narration. Text and audio stay in sync, so meaning comes first and listening starts from the whole scene rather than a word list.
Tap any word for an in-context translation and a plain explanation of how it works in that exact sentence. Support is optional, so you keep reading instead of dropping into a dictionary.
Shadow sentences from the story you just understood and get guided pronunciation feedback. You practise real lines you already comprehend, not random drill cards.
Rebuild sentences from the scene to internalise word order and phrasing — the way the language actually fits together, one chunk at a time.
A short comprehension check confirms you followed the scene, and the phrases you saved return in spaced review so they move into long-term memory.

First steps
No. Every graded story on the web is free to read without signing up. Create an account when you want the app: personalized daily stories, a structured learning path, guided speaking, and saved progress.
Stories are labelled by CEFR level (A1–B2). Choose one where you understand most of it but still meet a few new words — that is the band where input turns into progress. In the app you can also take a short placement check.
Start on the web at stories.melolingua.com, or install the Android app from Google Play. Sign up with your email address, pick your target language, and you can start reading right away.
MeloLingua runs on the web at stories.melolingua.com and on Android via Google Play. The native iOS app is not publicly available yet — iPhone users can use the web app in mobile Safari and join the iOS waitlist.
Inside a session
Tap any word in a story to see its meaning, its grammatical role, and how it behaves in that sentence. The gloss is tailored to the line you are reading, so it reads like a quick note from a teacher rather than a dictionary dump.
After reading, use the shadow-and-speak drills to repeat sentences aloud. MeloLingua gives guided pronunciation feedback and lets you replay the narration as many times as you need before trying again.
Chunk practice rebuilds sentences from the story you just read, so you internalise word order and natural phrasing instead of memorising isolated words. It is the step where understanding turns into production.
Yes. Each story ends with a short comprehension check tied to what happened in the scene, so you can confirm you followed the meaning — not just recognised the vocabulary.
Yes. Download a story while you have a connection, and it stays available for reading and audio playback offline. Downloading happens from your library inside the app.
Yes. Playback speed is adjustable, so you can start slower to catch the rhythm and move to natural speed as the same lines become comfortable.

Yes. Every graded story on melolingua.com is free to read with no account, and the app includes a free tier: foundations to read and one new story a day. Reference prices are $11.90 monthly or $69 yearly. The exact local price is shown before purchase.
Premium is for learning from stories about your own life: you can generate a story from your own topic or experience, every line in every lesson is translated, word help is unlimited, every line of a generated story is voiced with replay, new stories and episodes arrive without daily waits, and Shadow & Speak is unlimited. It does not lock lessons — every Foundations lesson stays free to read, and the first two episodes come with every line translated.
Cancel any time from your app store account settings (Google Play or the Apple App Store) or from your account if you subscribed on the web. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period, and there are no partial refunds for the remainder of a period.
Refunds follow how you purchased. Google Play handles its own refunds (request within 48 hours from your order history), Apple handles App Store refunds through Report a Problem, and a subscription bought directly on our website can be refunded in full within 14 days. See the refund policy for details.
Use the “Forgot password” link on the sign-in screen and follow the emailed reset link. If it does not arrive, check your spam folder, then contact us with the email on your account.
Sign in with the same email you used to subscribe, then open your account settings in the app and choose restore. If Premium does not return, send us a message with your account email and receipt.
Fixes
Check your volume and confirm the story finished downloading. On mobile, make sure the device is not on silent mode if you expect sound in the browser. If it was a downloaded story, open it from your library once you are back online and try again. Still stuck? Send us a message with the story title and your device.
Offline playback only works after a download finishes, so start it while you are connected. If a downloaded story disappeared, your device may have cleared app storage — re-download it from your library.
Progress saves to your account, so make sure you are signed in with the same email on every device. Give the app a moment on a stable connection, then reopen it. If the gap persists, contact us with your account email.
Glosses describe how a word is used in that specific sentence, so some entries intentionally differ from a plain dictionary. If you still think something is off, tell us the story and the line — corrections go straight to our editors.
Update MeloLingua to the latest version from Google Play, then restart your device. If it still misbehaves, reinstall the app — your progress lives on your account and returns when you sign back in.
