Laura loiters at Frankfurt central with a light pack and reserved seats on an ICE speeding toward Munich. A fresh announcement swaps her platform early, so she speed-walks and double-checks the correct coach for seat twelve with a conductor. Inside the compartment coffee steam rolls along the ceiling; an older traveller offers wedge of apple cake, yet Laura settles for a bistro sandwich once hunger hits. Between fields and forest blurs she whispers travel words so German sticks outside class: exit, on time, ID. Pulling into Munich she finally risks a full German question without reaching for English: “Excuse me, where is the subway exit?”
