Javier arrived fifteen minutes early because he heard that punctuality is important when everything is new. First, he tried to log in three times and ended up changing a complicated password while Ana, his new coworker, waited patiently by the elevator with a large empty mug. She showed him that sometimes it's better to use the card before the button and to ask for help in the shared kitchen because the microwave mixes absurd instructions in English and Spanish. Javier listened, took notes, and by midday, he had already thanked the team for the welcome. He sent a brief email with modest monthly goals and promised to reply before closing because he still didn't recognize all the professional mailing lists well.

Javier arrived fifteen minutes early because he heard that punctuality is important when everything is new.

In Spanish, we often mention the reason for actions with 'porque' or 'cuando'.

This pattern lets you give reasons for your actions during new situations.

How to express you tried or managed to do something

intentó iniciar sesión tres veces y terminó cambiando una contraseña complicada

he tried to log in three times and ended up changing a complicated password

You can use 'intentó' for 'tried' and 'terminó' for 'ended up'.

intenté [acción] y terminé [otro resultado]

  • intenté imprimir y terminé pidiendo ayuda
  • intenté llamar y terminé escribiendo un correo

Use this structure to say what you wanted to do and your actual result if it changed.

Thanking someone for their welcome in a new place

he had already thanked the team for the welcome

'agradecer por' means 'to thank for.'

agradecí a [persona/grupo] por [cosa/apoyo]

  • agradecí a mi jefe por la ayuda
  • agradecí al grupo por la oportunidad

This chunk helps you thank others for hospitality or help, especially at work or school.
