Alex went to a neighborhood library in Mapo-gu to borrow Korean storybooks.
At the information desk, a librarian handed over a membership form and a short pencil.
After writing an address and phone number, Alex stopped at the word
“What does this word mean? What should I write here?”
The librarian explained, “That field is for children. You may leave this box blank.”
When the card printed, a clear chime sounded from the little machine.
Alex chose two short storybooks with shiny plastic covers.
This time, Alex checked them out without help and slipped the card into a wallet.
